Saving a Life Is as Easy as A-E-D
In the time it takes you to read this page, sudden cardiac arrest will have claimed another victim. In the past year, 240,000 Americans died of sudden cardiac arrest: almost one every two minutes. A quarter of these deaths could have been prevented if an automated external defibrillator (AED) had been available for immediate use at the time of the emergency.

American Red Cross can help with all your AED needs - from Purchase to Training
Ordinary people can be lifesavers, thanks to AEDs and training from your American Red Cross. AED's are easy-to use, portable devices. By delivering a lifesaving electric shock, an AED can restore a heart's normal rhythm. Immediate use of an AED, in conjunction with CPR, could save up to 50,000 lives a year.

AEDS are now available in a wide range of settings, including airplanes, office buildings, industrial plants, casinos, golf courses, ski resorts, cruise ships and health clubs.  They are proven to be safe, reliable and effective in preventing unnecessary death from sudden cardiac arrest. Studies have clearly demonstrated that survival rates are high when defibrillation treatment is administered with the first few minutes following sudden cardiac arrest.

Calling 9-1-1 is NOT Enough

Designed especially for business and industry, the American Red Cross offers courses that train the lay rescuer in the workplace. Courses combine CPR and first aid training with instruction in automated external defibrillation, the two skills needed to save the life of a sudden cardiac arrest victim.  We invite you to learn more about this exciting technology and training that could save the life of someone you work with, perhaps even your own life.

  WHO HAS AN AED?
  WHY HAVE AN AED HERE?
Families
Nearly 80% of all cardiac arrests occur in the home. A well-equipped home is one with the latest in essential safety equipment... an AED will give you peace of mind, be prepared. Protect yourself and your loved ones.
Industrial and Retail Companies
Every day, thousands of people frequent offices, business parks, industrial plants and retail sites. Research shows shopping malls are one of the most likely spots for cardiac arrest to occur.
Residential and Resort Industries
Apartment complexes, hotels, resorts and casinos have found that having an AED program enhances the value of the property and strengthens guest and resident safety.
Fitness and Recreational Facilities
Sport lovers, participants and fans are vulnerable to cardiac arrest. Golf courses and sports stadiums are in the top five most likely places for cardiac arrest to occur. Pro-active facilities have AEDs on site.
Schools and Municipal Sites
Public health advocates are now recommending defibrillators be on hand wherever crowds of people congregate making schools, campuses and municipalities appropriate places for AEDs.
Law Enforcement
Police are often the first on the scene of sudden cardiac arrests. A study in the Annals of Emergency Medicine shows when police do arrive before paramedics, victims of sudden cardiac arrest are ten times more likely to survive if the police defibrillate when necessary.
Churches and Non-Profits
Places where many different people congregate and hold services frequently are likely to have someone in a crowd who may experience cardiac arrest and could be saved if an AED program was in place.
